What to do in the first moments after a loved one dies

📞 Who Do I Call First?

Hospice involved

Call hospice first. They pronounce death. Then call the funeral home.

Death at home, no hospice

Call 911 first. After pronouncement, call the funeral home.

Death in a hospital

Staff handles the steps. Ask when to call the funeral home.

Nursing home or assisted living

Notify staff. Ask when to call the funeral home.

Accident or homicide

Do not call the funeral home yet. The coroner must release the body first.
